Forthcoming CAMD Shutdowns

There will be two shutdowns of User beam at CAMD in the coming year.

The first will start on Monday, July 28, and continue for four weeks. During this shutdown, a second RF cavity will be installed alongside the present cavity. This is a necessary step in preparation for the Multipole Wigglers which are planned for CAMD. It will also assist in ramping the higher beam currents which are now routinely being injected into CAMD. During the first two weeks of the shutdown, the cavity will be installed and tested, and in the second two weeks, the vacuum will be conditioned. Beam will be available to users during conditioning, but it will be of short lifetime and possibly low intensity.

The second shutdown will take place during the Fall when the Wiggler will be removed from the ring and returned to the Budker Institute, Novosibirsk, in order to be equipped with an upgraded cryostat. The date of the second shutdown is presently awaiting confirmation whilst the contract is being agreed with the Budker Institute. The shutdown may be of only two weeks duration, but the beam afterwards will have reduced lifetime as the vacuum reconditions. The Wiggler beam line will be out of action for a period of five months until the Wiggler in its new cryostat is re-installed in the first half of 2009. The dates of these events will be posted as soon as they are confirmed.
