More New Faces

Please welcome Balaji Gopalan, who joins CAMD as a post-doctoral researcher from October. Balaji recently finished his stint as a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Institute for Nanotechnology in Karlsruhe, Germany. A winner of the Alexander von Humboldt Post-doctoral Fellowship, he earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India, in 2003. Balaji will be conducting wet-chemical syntheses of nanomaterials, with special attention to magnetic nanoparticles. The tools of his trade at CAMD will include x-ray diffraction, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy.

William Pittman joins us as a Research Specialist 1. A native of Denham Springs, he earned his Bachelor’s in Microbiology in 1984. Bill has valuable experience with and in environmental and ecological evaluations /assessments and law enforcement. Just retired from the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, he can be found at CAMD from late evening to the wee hours in the morning. As an accelerator operator, he will “inject, inject, inject,” monitor the storage ring, and maintain security. Welcome aboard, Bill!

Andrew Webber, a Master’s student in Physics at LSU, has joined CAMD as Research Associate 3 in November.  Andrew will be working with the X-ray group.

Both Eric Knott and Selim Kazan  join the Vacuum group as Research Specialists 1. While Selim is no stranger to CAMD since he has been operating our accelerator since 2005 as he pursues his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering at LSU, Eric is a relative newcomer from Kentucky. Eric earned his Bachelor’s in Industrial Sciences in Manufacturing at the Western Kentucky University in 1998 and has considerable experience soothing temperamental machines.

Welcome to CAMD!
