Research Associate 3 (X-ray Group)

The Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD) at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana invites applications for the position of Research Associate 3.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's or equivalent degree in engineering, physics, chemistry or related field and two years of related experience.

Additional Qualifications:
Advanced degree such as M.S. or Ph.D.; knowledge of vacuum technology, electronic instrumentation, and computer technology, and communication skills; willingness to learn; familiarity with X-ray physics and X-ray related analytical techniques; knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems; knowledge of small and wide angle X-ray scattering.

Special Requirements:
The working hours are flexible but occasionally require evening and weekend shifts for completion of experimental runs.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities involve the overall operation of X-ray beam lines at the CAMD synchrotron storage ring. These instruments include X-ray absorption, X-ray diffraction and small angle X-ray scattering beamlines. The duties at these beam lines include: control and maintenance of electronic equipment, UHV vacuum systems, and troubleshooting and repair of malfunctioning beamline components when necessary.
In addition, the successful applicant will be expected to collaborate with external users and assist with their experiments. The candidate must be able to acquire enough theoretical background in the various measurement techniques that they can assist in the interpretation and analysis of data. As a team member of the X-ray group, the candidate will also explore and aid in the implementation of new techniques that can be developed at these beam lines.
