The Fourteenth National SRI Conference is hosted by the Louisiana State University J. Bennett Johnston, Sr., Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD/LSU) in Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana, is located on the Mississippi River and is home to many sources of cultural, historical and entertainment opportunities. The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, a twenty minute drive from the Hilton Capitol Center, is served by many major airlines. Baton Rouge is located northwest of New Orleans, one hour’s drive from the New Orleans International Airport and one-and-one-half hour’s drive from the French Quarter. Both airports are fully functional.
The 2005 National SRI Conference was scheduled to be held in Baton Rouge, September of 2005. Three weeks before the meeting, Hurricane Katrina devastated the areas in and around New Orleans. Within days, Baton Rouge’s population doubled to a million people. The hotels were filled to capacity and all activities requiring hotels in Baton Rouge were cancelled for the remainder of 2005. The situation, thankfully, is much better now and we are pleased to host the 2007 National SRI Conference in Baton Rouge.
